PMA Industry Development Workshops

Welcome to the PMA’s Industry Development Workshop program. We are delighted to make these programs available to the whole community, as well as our PMA Pilates Certified Teachers.

PMA Certified Pilates Teachers may use up to 4-6 online or DVD CECs towards the required 16 CECs they must earn every two years.

Getting Started
  1. Each online workshop consists of streaming videos and, in some cases, an assessment. Workshops that offer CEC’s require the viewer to take a true/false quiz in order to receive a CEC certificate. After viewing, you will be given the option of taking the assessment; you have three attempts to score at least 70%. After completing the quiz with a score of 70% or higher, you may download your certificate. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact Technical Support by clicking here.

  2. To register for an Online Workshop, please click on the Workshop name below. Successful registration will generate an email to you containing the workshop login information. If you do not your login information within a few minutes, check your Junk/Spam folder.
Thank you for joining us.

Learn the distinctions between ‘teacher training’ and a ‘3rd party credential’!

This informational and engaging film captured a talk given at the PMA’s first Teacher Training Summit on November 7 & 8, 2009 in Dallas, Texas. For the first time, approximately 80 teacher trainers and administrators from a wide range of Pilates teacher training schools got together with PMA leadership to discuss the status and meaning of ‘certification’ within the profession.

The PMA wanted teacher trainers to gain a deeper understanding of the distinctions between ‘teacher training’ and a ‘3rd party credential’. Specifically, the PMA’s goal was to solve the terminology problem that causes confusion both within the Pilates community, and with clients, students, and the general public.

The issue is that the word ‘certification’ has often been used in our industry to describe both the result of teacher training and a 3rd party credential, such as the PMA’s Certified Pilates Teacher credential.

The PMA convened the Pilates teacher training community in order to explore, discuss and then agree on terminology that makes clear to the public (both clients and Pilates teachers), which is which.

At the conclusion of this talk, the majority of the group made an historic agreement to cease using the word ‘certification’ to describe the result of teacher training. This agreement lays the groundwork for the PMA’s new Registry of Schools, due to launch in the summer of 2010.

The speaker on the history and application of third party certification was James Henderson, PhD, Senior Psychometrician, Executive Vice President of CASTLE Worldwide, Inc., the PMA’s test administration company.
